Join Candice Lawrie for a hands on workshop on preparing to build a family archive. In this workshop, participants will use upcoming family visits and holiday gatherings as an opportunity to begin or strengthen a family archive. Participants will learn how to locate family materials, preserve photographs and documents, identify the stories connected to them, begin oral history conversations, and organize what they collect.

Candice (“Candy”) Lawrie is an emerging museum and archives professional, art historian, and collections specialist dedicated to preserving and increasing access to African American art and cultural heritage. After returning to Clark Atlanta University more than 20 years after beginning her undergraduate studies, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Art History, bringing a blend of professional experience and academic training to her work.
Candy recently served as the Collections Processing Intern with the AUC Woodruff Library Archives Research Center, where she processed the largest donation of African art books to the institution to date. Her work there focused on the assessment, organization, and archival processing of this significant research collection to support long-term preservation and public access.
Previously, Candy served in multiple roles at the Clark Atlanta University Art Museum, including Digital Humanities Intern, Registrar Intern, Assistant Registrar, and Collections Assistant. Her experience includes metadata creation, collection cataloging, exhibition installation and deinstallation, condition reporting, object handling, research, database management, and collaborating with appraisers and conservators in the stewardship of museum collections.
Beyond institutional work, Candy has presented on community archiving for the Hapeville Depot Museum’s Juneteenth programming, served as Gallery Host for Gene Dominique’s Still Here: African American Farmers in the 21st Century at the Fulton County Central Library, and provides personal assistance and project management for her clients and their households.
Her professional interests include archives, collections management, registrar work, provenance research, and expanding access to African American art and history through museums, libraries, and cultural institutions.
